DIPSTICK

Privacy Policy

Effective October 29, 2026

Dipstick keeps your car's records on your iPhone. I don't run any servers, I don't have accounts, and I can't see your data.

What Dipstick stores, and where

Everything you enter (your cars, fill-ups, services, parts, tests, notes, photos and drives) is stored on your iPhone in the app. It isn't sent to me or to anyone else.

Location

When a drive is recording, Dipstick uses your iPhone's location to measure distance and speed. When the drive ends, it keeps only the date, the car, and how many miles were city and how many were highway. Your route, the places you went, and your speeds are not saved.

Dipstick asks for location access set to "Always" so that drives can start automatically when your phone connects to your car, even with the app closed. Location is only used while a drive is recording. You can change this any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Dipstick.

Camera and photos

Dipstick uses the camera, or photos you choose, to read pump displays, receipts, service records and maintenance schedules. They're read on your iPhone using Apple's built-in text recognition and, where available, Apple Intelligence on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere.

A photo is only kept if you choose to keep it, for example a receipt, a photo added to a service's notes, or a photo saved when you report a scan that read wrong. Those stay in the app on your iPhone.

Car connections

To tell which car a drive is in, Dipstick reads the name and ID of the CarPlay or Bluetooth device your phone is connected to and remembers the ones you link to each car. This stays on your iPhone.

Backups

If you turn on backups, Dipstick saves a copy of your data to the folder you choose, such as a folder in your iCloud Drive. Files in iCloud Drive are stored by Apple under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy policy. I can't access them.

What Dipstick doesn't do

Crash reports and beta feedback

If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send me anonymous crash reports. If you're testing Dipstick through TestFlight, any feedback or screenshots you choose to send go to me through Apple.

Children

Dipstick isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect information from them.

Deleting your data

Deleting a car in Dipstick deletes its records. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored on your iPhone. Backups you saved to a folder stay there until you delete them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
